Dear Parents/Community Members,

We are hoping you will take part in an exciting aspect of our 8th Grade Civil Rights unit we started last year. Our students will be creating a Wiki space (“a collaborative website whose content can be edited by anyone who has access to it”) based on the information they learn.

We would like your participation in this learning process. If you would like to participate in our online Civil Rights unit, you must register with Wikispaces at the address listed below. You will only need to complete steps 1, 2, and 3.

In order to ensure our students’ online safety, we ask that you register in one of the following three ways:

  • If you are a relative of an 8th grader -
Username: Student’s last name-relation to student (ie. rice-mom or rice-grandma)
  • If you are a Community member -
Username: Your last name-yarmouth (ie. rice-yarmouth)
  • If you are a District employee -
Username: Your last name – building (ie. rice-HMS or YHS or ROWE or YES)

To register, go to and look for the blue box titled “Get Started”.

Upon completion of your registration, wikispaces will send you an email to verify your account. Once you are verified, please visit our Civil Rights home page at

To access our students' wikispaces, click on the teacher names in the left navigation window. You may comment by selecting the discussion tab at the top of any page. Your comment will then become part of a virtual conversation for that page.
